Guaidó Calls For Protests, Says “Clear Instructions” To Supporters If He’s Captured

Opposition leader Juan Guaidó will return to Venezuela today and has called for supporters to take to the streets at 11:00am. According to a tweet from Guaidó, the main protests in Caracas will be along Las Mercedes, while other protests across the country will be announced by local organizers.

Guaidó travelled across the border to Colombia on February 23 with plans to return with aid from the United States. His supporters were met with fierce resistance from government forces.

Since then he has met with political leaders from across the region, including the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, and of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno. While in Colombia, Guaidó met with the vice president of the United States, Mike Pence.

“If the usurper and his accomplices dare to try to hold me, we have left a clear route, with clear instructions to follow by our international allies and brothers of Parliament,” tweeted Guaidó on Sunday.

United States National Security Director, John Bolton, seemed to back up Guaidó.

“Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaido has announced his planned return to Venezuela,” tweeted Bolton. “Any threats or acts against his safe return will be met with a strong and significant response from the United States and the international community.”

It is unclear how Guaidó plans to return to Venezuela.
